Get to Know Jennifer and Adam!

Rev. Jennifer Maxell and Rev. Adam Mixon are no strangers to working with Macedonian Ministry. Over the last several years they have shared their gifts with us in various ways and we are grateful that their involvement continues to increase.

Jennifer has served Macedonian Ministry in a variety of ways in recent years via content development, conference leadership, and as a vital contributor to annual think tank advisory gatherings. She brings a unique combination of care, creativity, and entrepreneurship, and plays a crucial role in improving and expanding what MM currently provides, while also developing new programming and resources.

Adam has been engaged with the work of Macedonian Ministry for over six years as a cohort facilitator, workshop leader, content developer, and as an invaluable conversation partner and advisor. While Adam will continue in several of these roles, he is also involved in helping to shape the broader vision of Macedonian Ministry, with a particular focus on our program’s evolving content and resources.

“As a fourth generation preacher, second generation preachers wife and PK, I have a unique perspective that fuels my passion for the physical, emotional and spiritual health and well being of pastors and their families. Joining Macedonian Ministry gives me the opportunity to align my passion and gifts in service to my brothers and sisters in ministry with an organization that is forward thinking and innovative. I am excited about the possibilities and the impact we will have on the Kingdom.”

Rev. Jennifer Watley Maxell affectionately known as “Rev. Jenn” is a preacher, teacher, church co-founder, life coach and author. With the blessing of Bishop William P. Deveaux, former Presiding Prelate of the Sixth Episcopal District of the AME Church, Jennifer and her husband Rev. Charles A. Maxell, Jr. founded The Breakthrough Fellowship, a new church initiative located in Cobb County, Georgia. Ever since it’s inception as a Bible study in their home, The Breakthrough Fellowship has maintained its mission of “Helping broken people find wholeness through an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ’.

Rev. Jenn exemplifies this mission as the founder of “The Ellipsis Experience”, a three-day lifestyle conference for women and teen girls of faith that provides a safe space to creatively engage their personal stories and the Christ story through dynamic worship, transformative interactive workshops and anointed fellowship.

In addition to being a poet and blogger Rev. Jenn is a contributing author of several books including: “Why Black Lives Matter (Too): A Revolutionary Call to Action” and “Exodus Preaching: Crafting Sermons About Justice and Hope”. She has also authored “Like Father, Like Daughter: Meditations and Reflections for Father and Daughters” with her father Dr. William D. Watley.

Rev. Jenn received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Howard University, and her Master of Divinity degree from Emory’s Candler School of Theology with Certificates in Black Church Studies and Religious Education; and was ordained an Itinerate Elder in the AME church in May 2017. Born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in New Jersey, Rev. Jenn currently resides in Smyrna, Georgia with her husband Charles and their three children: Madison, Charles III and Skylar.

“I said ‘yes’ to an expanded role with Macedonian Ministry, because I feel called to care for those who care for the souls of others, and I think MM aligns well with my sense of calling. MM also reminds me of the broadness of the Body of Christ – the depth and the diversity of the Church. I think that many answers to the current dilemmas facing the Church, concerning decline and relevance, are somehow requisite to a healthy response and embrace of this rich diversity. MM, in meaningful ways, provides the space for us to learn and listen, finally, to the margins. MM is revolutionary and reforming work. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to wade out into this deep place!”
